Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “I just got this monitor, and it’s excellent. The color accuracy is amazing, and the size is perfect for my graphic design work. The USB-C docking feature is a lifesaver, reducing cable clutter significantly. My MacBook Pro charges directly from the monitor, and I only need one cable. Highly recommended for creatives!”

Customer Review: “After spending some time trying to decide upon a replacement monitor for my old one, I finally decided upon this one, fearing I would not be happy with inferior quality of other cheaper options I have read about. The Asus ProArt PA34VCNV is probably more screen real estate than I need, but figured why not. Better too much than regret buying a smaller one. The quality of the display is excellent. I am not a professional designer, photographer, etc. But I know my picky critical nature and would have been bothered by a poor experience. I am pleasantly surprised to report no detectable dead pixels on this very large panel. One moderate complaint, as others have reported, the USB-C port doesn’t work ideally on my MacBook Pro because after sleeping, the monitor is not awoken and has to be powered off and on. Consequently, I had to use HDMI instead. No big deal for my purposes. One very minor thing to report is there was no warranty card included (as reportedly was supposed to). I was able to register online. But for some reason the warranty start/end dates were wrong. The purchase was 2/5/2024, but the warranty range spanned from the prior year to 2026. However, after contacting customer support, the issue was resolved. We’ll see what the future brings; I will update this review if anything changes… Update (Mar 27, 2024): apparently one of the recent Mac OS updates fixed the USB-C issue. After installing Sonoma 14.4.1 I gave it another test and now the machine and monitor successfully wake from sleep mode.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Really like this monitor that I got for my kid. I originally thought the curve was going to be a problem but that definitely proved to not be. It’s very responsive and easy to setup. The colors needed a bit of calibration that I got from a review site but after that it looked good. The quality seems really good for the price. Refresh rate is pretty high but my kid doesn’t have an ultra high end machine so it can’t drive it very often to be honest. Over all though it’s a great monitor that is cheap and gets the job done.”

Customer Review: “This is a great monitor for the price! Nice and big with plenty of screen real estate. Crisp and bright video. I haven’t had any reason to complain. I treated it gently until I got it mounted due to some of the other reviews, but once I got it secured on the arm, I have no worries. Treat her gently and she’s just fine. The only caveat I have for anyone is to be aware, there are no speakers, so an external is necessary.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “This monitor is a great value for the price. I mainly use it for work (SAP-heavy tasks) and general web browsing with my Mac mini, and it performs well. It comes with both a USB-C and HDMI cable, which is super convenient for switching between my Mac and ThinkPad. The remote aids in the switching between PC and smart monitor use (picture quality is ok but I didnt expect a lot of a monitor since it isn’t a tv) Assembly was easy, and the display quality is nice—though I did tweak the contrast and color settings to my liking. The built-in sound is decent, and while I’m not picky about audio, it’s more than fine for everyday use. My only gripe is with the smart TV feature—when using apps like Peacock, the resolution doesn’t fill the screen, leaving black bars on the sides (included a photo). Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. Overall, I’m glad I kept it. It’s proven that you don’t have to drop $1,300 on an iMac—pairing a Mac Mini with this monitor cost me under $1,000 and works just as well. If LG tossed in a second USB-C cable and fixed the resolution issue, they’d have a customer for life.”

Customer Review: “I bought this monitor to get more viewing space and the curved screen. But, it took me sometime to figure out how to get it to work properly because I am using a docking station that only support USB-C upstream at 5Gbps/100W and 2K HDMI, 4K HDMI. This monitor has 5M pixel (3440×1440) that is equivalent to 2.5K. If your docking station only supports 2K HDMI, the image will be blurry. Once, I switch to 4K HDMI port on the docking station, the blurry image is gone. Please make sure the HDMI cable is also 4K, too. The one come with the monitor is good. After that, the image is perfect but it flicks (screen black out 2s, come back, and disappear agin) every few seconds, especially when I use Web browser. This basically make it useless. I google the problem, updated my graphic card driver, and it is still the same. I suspected upstream speed of my docking station is too slow. I search internet and it shows 5Gbps is enough for 2.5K. When I connect with my laptop Thunderbold 4 port (40 Gbps), the flicking is gone. It only happens when I connect with my laptop’s USB-C 3.2/DisplayPort/PD (10 Gbps/100W) combo port. At this point, I am pretty sure it is caused by the docking station 5Gbps upstream speed. Therefore, I bought another docking station that support USB-C upstream 10Gbps/100W with 2x HDMI 4K. All problems are gone when it connects with the new docking station. By the way, the USB-C cable come with the monitor only support 5Gbps/100W so that I have to use my own USB-C cable. To sum up, it needs USB-C 3.2 DisplayPort/PD combo port (10 Gbps/100W) connection including the USB-C cable and a 4K HDMI port and cable. Overall, this is a good monitor.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Large Curved Monitor For Macbook Pro

Essential Factors We Consider

When choosing the best large curved monitor for your MacBook Pro, several factors come into play. We look at screen size and curvature, as a larger, more curved display provides greater immersion and can reduce eye strain by keeping the entire screen within your peripheral vision. Resolution is also key; higher resolutions like QHD or 4K ensure crisp text and detailed images, which is crucial for both productivity and media consumption. Connectivity is paramount for MacBook Pro users – look for monitors with USB-C ports that support DisplayPort Alternate Mode and power delivery, allowing for a single-cable solution. Refresh rate and response time are important for smooth visuals, especially if you game or watch fast-paced content. Finally, color accuracy (sRGB, Rec. 709, DCI-P3 coverage) and panel type (IPS, VA, OLED) determine the quality of the image.

Budget Planning

Large curved monitors can range significantly in price. The Samsung Odyssey G93SC represents the high end, offering cutting-edge QD-OLED technology and premium features, but at a premium cost. The ASUS ProArt PA34VCNV sits in the mid-to-high range, justified by its professional-grade color accuracy and USB-C docking capabilities. For those seeking a balance of immersion and affordability, the Samsung Odyssey G5 is an excellent budget-friendly option. The LG 34SR60QC-W offers a unique smart monitor experience at a competitive price. Consider your primary use case and how much you’re willing to invest to find the sweet spot for your needs.

Final Thoughts

Selecting the right large curved monitor for your MacBook Pro is about finding a device that enhances your workflow and entertainment. Whether you prioritize cutting-edge gaming performance, professional color accuracy, or a versatile smart display, there’s an option out there for you. Remember to consider your desk space and how the monitor’s features align with your daily tasks. A good monitor stand, like a monitor stand for curved displays, can also be crucial for optimal ergonomics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the best curved monitor size for a MacBook Pro?

A: For a MacBook Pro, 34-inch to 49-inch ultrawide curved monitors are often considered ideal. These sizes offer a significant increase in screen real estate for multitasking without being overwhelmingly large. The 1000R to 1800R curvature helps maintain comfortable viewing across the expansive screen.

Q: Do curved monitors work well with MacBooks?

A: Yes, curved monitors work very well with MacBooks. Many modern curved monitors offer USB-C connectivity, which is perfect for MacBooks, allowing for a single-cable solution for display, data, and power. The increased screen space is also highly beneficial for macOS’s multitasking features.

Q: What resolution should I look for in a large curved monitor for my MacBook Pro?

A: For large curved monitors (34-inch and above), QHD (3440×1440) is a good starting point for sharp visuals and ample workspace. For even larger or higher-end monitors, 4K (3840×2160) or DQHD (5120×1440) will provide the best clarity and detail, especially for creative work.

Q: Are 1000R curved monitors too aggressive for productivity?

A: A 1000R curve is quite aggressive and designed for maximum immersion. While great for gaming and media, some users find it slightly intense for prolonged productivity tasks. Monitors with a gentler curve like 1800R might be more comfortable for all-day office work. However, many users adapt quickly to the 1000R curve and enjoy the immersive workspace it provides.

Q: Do I need a specific adapter for a curved monitor with my MacBook Pro?

A: If the monitor has a USB-C port that supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode, you usually won’t need an adapter. You can connect your MacBook Pro directly with a USB-C cable. If the monitor only has DisplayPort or HDMI, you might need a USB-C to DisplayPort or USB-C to HDMI adapter/cable, depending on your MacBook Pro’s ports.

Upgrading your MacBook Pro setup with a large curved monitor can truly transform your daily computing experience. The added screen real estate and immersive viewing angles boost productivity, make multitasking a breeze, and enhance entertainment.
